In a quiet but powerful digital transformation taking shape across Uganda’s agricultural landscape, The Vet Centre Learning Academy has been redefining the way farmers learn, connect, and grow. Now in its third month, the weekly online learning platform, hosted by Vet Centre, one of Uganda’s leading veterinary pharmaceutical companies has become a trusted hub for farmers, veterinarians, and agripreneurs seeking to strengthen their technical and business acumen.
Held every Saturday from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM via Google Meet, The Vet Centre Learning Academy offers free, interactive sessions covering a wide range of topics critical to modern livestock farming. These include disease prevention and vaccination strategies, nutrition and feed efficiency, farm economics, sustainability, and emerging technologies in animal husbandry.
Each session is led by Vet Centre’s seasoned experts, including Dr. David Omoding, Dr. Samantha Barasa, and Mr. Rogers Mukisa, among others. Participants engage in open Q&A discussions, access learning resources, and gain firsthand insights from real-world veterinary practice and farm management experiences.
“The goal is simple,” says Dr. Omoding, a senior veterinarian, Vet Centre Business Development Manager and regular host at the Academy. “We want to bridge the gap between veterinary science and on-the-ground practice. Farmers deserve access to credible, practical, and affordable knowledge that can make their enterprises more productive and sustainable.”
Over the past two months, the sessions have tackled some of the most pressing challenges in Uganda’s livestock sector, from metabolic disorders in dairy animals, poultry solutions to innovative ways of diversifying income in modern piggery systems. The initiative has also drawn attention to the importance of pharmaceutical best practices, helping farmers make informed decisions about animal health products and dosage management.
For Vet Centre, this program underscores its broader mission: building a resilient livestock sector through education, innovation, and trusted veterinary solutions. “We believe that empowering farmers with the right knowledge is just as important as providing quality veterinary products,” says Dr. Samantha Barasa, Head of Poultry at Vet Centre. “The Academy is our way of giving back to the community and ensuring long-term impact beyond the sale of products.”
The Learning Academy has seen a steady rise in participation from farmers across Uganda and even beyond thanks to its virtual accessibility. Participants range from smallholder farmers in rural districts to agribusiness owners managing commercial poultry & livestock operations.
Beyond training, The Vet Centre Learning Academy has also become a networking platform, connecting farmers to experts, industry partners, and emerging innovations in veterinary science. The program’s long-term vision includes expanding to include regional training hubs, certification programs, and on-site farm demonstrations, bridging digital learning with practical experience.
For now, the focus remains on consistency, accessibility, and measurable impact. As the Academy continues to attract attention from Uganda’s growing agricultural sector, Vet Centre’s leadership sees it as part of a larger movement toward knowledge-driven farming, a shift that could redefine productivity, profitability, and sustainability in the years ahead.
